ITI UNA has been selected among 100 ITI’s in the country by DGE&T(Directorate General of Employment & Training), Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India for Centrally Sponsored Plan Scheme of Up gradation of ITI’s into “Centers of Excellence” in “AUTOMOBILE Sector”.
These centers will be providing “Multiskill Training” to meet the skill requirement of particular sector of industry with the active involvement of the industry in all aspects of training.
The training will be provided in three parts as under:
Training in Basic Skill Areas for a period of one year
Training in Advanced Modules for next six months

The testing and certification for the basic skill training during first year and also for advanced training during next six months will be conducted by NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training)

Training in Specialized Modules mainly in the industry (The course Curricula, duration etc. will be designed in consultations with the IMC (Institute Managing Committee)/Local Industry. The trade testing & certification for this component will be done jointly by the State Government & Industry. Said certificate will be recognized by NCVT
- The training Programme will have multi-entry and multi-exit provisions:

Trainees can opt to go to Labour Market after completing Broad Based Training of one year as well as after completing 1½ years of training
Trainees can come back after some time to seek admission for advanced/specialized training in another module.
ITI pass out trainees of the particular trade(s) from the conventional system can seek admission for advanced/specialized training

I am concerned about the quality of technical education in the country. Lest I be misunderstood, I am not referring to the IITs but to the ITIs. ITIs are the training ground for skilled manpower. The skills imparted by ITIs must keep pace with the technological demands of industry and the expanding universe of knowledge. There is only one benchmark for our technicians – and that is the world standard. In order to produce technicians of world standard, Government proposes to launch a programme in the Central sector to upgrade 500 ITIs over the next 5 years at the rate of 100 ITIs a year. Appropriate infrastructure and equipment will be provided, the syllabi will be upgraded and new trades will be introduced. This is an area where I welcome Chambers of Commerce and Industry to join hands with the Government and create a public-private partnership model for designing and implementing the scheme. The selection of the ITIs will be done in consultation with the State Governments”.
INTRODUCTION:
Govt. of India decided to upgrade 100 ITIs in the country in to “Centre of Excellence” in the first phase in the FY 2005-2006 through domestic resources and 400 ITIs through World Bank Assistance.

I.T.I. Una (Himachal Pradesh) is among 100 ITI’s in the country which has been selected by DGE&T(Directorate General of Employment & Training), Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India for Centrally Sponsored Scheme-Up gradation of ITI’s into “Centers of Excellence” for “Automobile Sector” .

FINANCIAL DETAILS (Per Center of Excellence):

SHARING OF EXPENDITURE BETWEEN CENTRE & STATE GOVERNMENT:

The Central and State Governments would share the above expenditure in the ratio of 75 : 25. The release of Central share and State share would be linked with the physical progress as well as utilization of the earlier installment.
Main Features of the Scheme:

1.     TRAINING PART

These centers will be providing “Multiskill Training” to meet the skill requirement of particular sector of industry with the active involvement of the industry in all aspects of training.
The training will be provided in three parts as under:
Training in Broad Based Basic Training in Basic Skill Areas for a period of one year
Training in Advanced Modules for next six months

Training in Specialized Modules mainly in the industry (The course Curricula, duration etc. will be designed in consultations with the IMC (Institute Managing Committee)/Local Industry. The trade testing & certification for this component will be done jointly by the State Government & Industry. Said certificate will be recognized by NCVT. Training on the factory shop floor should constitute at least 25-40% of the curriculum.

Trainees can opt to go to Labour Market after completing Broad Based Training of one year as well as after completing 1½ years of training
Trainees can come back after some time to seek admission for advanced/specialized training in another module.
ITI pass out trainees of the particular trade(s) from the conventional system can seek admission for advanced/specialized training

In first year, there will be six Basic Modules with time duration of 8 weeks for each module and three Generic Modules with time duration of 2 hrs/week
Module-1:   Basic Fitting & Measurement                                                        8 weeks
Module-2:   Basic Sheet Metal & Welding                                                                    8 weeks
Module-3:   Basic Electrical Electronics                                                                      8 weeks
Module-4:   Basic Microprocessor & Computer Operation                                    8 weeks
Module-5:   Basic of Petrol & Diesel Engines                                                           8 weeks
Module-6:   Basic of Transmission Suspension ,Steering System & Breaks    8 weeks
(For these modules, Trade Practical will be 28 hrs/week and Trade theory for 4 hrs/week. In addition, 4 hrs/week have kept for Library studies & Physical Training
Apart from these above Generic Modules as mentioned below will be taught throughout the year
Module-7:   Workshop Calculation & Science    2 hrs/week
Module-8:   Engineering Drawing          2 hrs/week
Module-9:   Entrepreneurship & Communication Skills    2 hrs/week
In 2nd year the following are the Advanced Modules of six month duration each

Servicing & Overhauling of Automobiles (Petrol).
Servicing & Overhauling of Automobiles (Diesel).
Auto Electricals , Auto Electronics & Air Conditioning in Automobiles.

2.          ELIGIBILTY FOR ADMISSION & OTHER CRITERIA:
            Eligibility        :            10th Pass under 10+2 system
            Batch Size    :            6 groups of 18 trainees each (Total = 108)

3.          COMPONENTS OF THE SCHEME:

(a)       Civil works for carrying out additions/alternations and renovations in the existing ITI’s.
(b)       Procurement of Equipments.
(c)        Honorarium for contract/guest faculty/staff as well as payment of honorarium to existing staff wherever required.
(d)       Technical assistance for training of trainers and management personnel.

Miscellaneous expenditure towards curriculum development/procurement of training material, office expenses, MIS, conducting surveys/workshops/seminars and tracer studies of graduates of COE.
